Courses and Training

Advanced Coastal Canoeing is the highest skill level course in the Coastal Canoe program and provides the theory and skill necessary for safe travel in moderately exposed coastal locations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate greater boat control in moderate conditions including wind, waves, swell, current and moderate surf. Rescue techniques focus on effective management of challenging rescue situations in exposed conditions.  Candidates will also participate in additional concepts such as tide prediction, personal weather forecasting and low visibility navigation by dead reckoning.

The main focus at the advanced level is good decision making that reflects the limit of the group’s ability in relation to forecasted and actual environmental conditions.
